Customizing Solutions for Palos Verdes Golf Club

The Client

Palos Verdes Golf Club,founded in 1924, is considered as one of the most prestigious golf clubs on the West Coast.
However, through the years the Clubhouse has not kept pace with its reputation until recently when necessary upgrades
to the Clubhouse were made.

The owners decided to restore the original Mediterranean architecture and re-establish a link with the original plan as
it was envisioned nearly eighty years ago. Hosa Design Associates, an architectural firm, was hired to design and re-create
the original 1924 Historic Early California interior details and appearance of the Club. Because of Ideal Products' reputation
of innovative and creative design, we were hired to be part of the restoration project.

Ideal Products offered its customized solution to this restorative concept for the club’s women’s locker room. Hosa Design Associates
presented us with preliminary conceptual plans two years prior to the start of the project. We then provided them with preliminary design
plans and budgetary figures based on this information. During this time we worked with Hosa Design Associates through several redesigns.
We found that the size of the lockers needed to be changed to accommodate both the women’s locker room area and the number of
members using the lockers. In addition, the original samples of the natural wood finish for the lockers that we provided appeared lighter
and too red in color.

The Solution

Ideal Products solution began with customizing the lockers for the club’s women’s locker room. Each locker is handcrafted by
its experts by using modern technology. This includes the latest in automatic, computer-controlled machinery insuring precise
fabrication of all components and assembly with the utmost integrity.

We presented our initial shop drawing of the original locker size as it would appear in the locker room. However, when field
measurements were completed and added to our drawing it clearly showed that the size of each locker needed to be reduced
in order to accommodate the number of lockers that the club needed. We found that the actual wall length on both the east
and west side of the locker room was different. Because redesigning the lockers was not feasible, it was determined that only two
lockers needed to be eliminated.

The final locker design that was accepted accommodates the 621 square foot space for its 98 women members. The integrity
of the locker room design was maintained by inserting nine fillers and corner caps. We built 77 single tier executive style and
double tier lockers in birch with louvered doors. Through our Stain Selection Guide we prepared several finish samples and were
able to match the right color for the lockers. The locker shelves were made with white melamine and the interior panels were double
installed a end panels with mirrors. We custom engraved nameplate for each member’s locker.

The Result

As a result, the integrity and style was not compromised and accommodated the lady members with a rich and warm looking
locker room area. Our reputation of innovation and creative design has set the standards for quality, function and design
of manufactured wood and plastic laminated lockers. The Palos Verdes Golf Club women’s locker room now services their
98 members with their vision of an original Mediterranean architecture that is warm, inviting and rich looking. The 77 customized
lockers blend in nicely in the 621 square foot club’s women’s locker room.
